Certificate of revocation receipts, 1925-1937.

"In all cases, except treason and impeachment, the governor has power,..., to grant reprieves, commutations, paroles, and to remit fines and forfeitures..." (Ala. Code, Chapter 202, Section 5127 [1923]). In 1901, by authority of the Constitution, Article V, Section 124, the Attorney General, Secretary of State, and State Auditor were named members of an advisory Board of Pardons which assisted the governor by submitting written opionions regarding the granting of paroles, pardons, and revocations. This series consists of receipt stubs revoking parole. Information recorded on the receipt includes the name of the prisoner, county, date convicted, crime, sentence, and the date when parole was revoked. Many of the entries are incomplete and offer only partial information. These records were created during the administrations of Governors William Woodward Brandon (1923-1927), Bibb Graves (1927-1931) and (1935-1939), and Benjamin Meek Miller (1931-1935).
